Córdoba

The city of patios and the Mosque, capital of the caliphate.

Córdoba was the capital of the Umayyad Caliphate of the West and one of the most populated and learned cities in the world in the 10th century. Its greatest symbol is the Mosque-Cathedral, declared a World Heritage Site, with its forest of columns and horseshoe arches. The Jewish quarter, with its narrow white streets, leads to the Synagogue and the Casa de Sefarad. In May, the Festival of the Patios transforms the city into an explosion of colour and flowers. The Alcázar of the Christian Monarchs, the Roman temple and the Roman bridge over the Guadalquivir complete an essential visit. Cordoban gastronomy stands out for salmorejo, flamenquín and montilla-moriles wine.
